The entire legal aid community continues to be actively engaged in an unprecedented effort to deal with one of the greatest disasters this country has ever faced. A disaster that gave stark witness to the disparities that exist in our society along the fault lines of poverty and race.

Certainly the legal aid programs and their staff in the areas of greatest impact from the storm have suffered tremendously. Yet they have responded with a resilience that is inspiring to us all.

Since Semptember 2005, those leadingthe relief effort have been sharing information, asking for help, and supporting each other through regular conference calls. The minutes of these conference calls may be helpful to you inlearning about how far these communities have come,how much there is still left to do, and where you can get involved and help.
