The primer summarizes the main features of bankruptcy and the different types of bankruptcy proceedings. The primer discusses Chapter 7, Chapter 11, Chapter 12 and Chapter 13 from the debtor's perspective, and includes a section that discusses creditors' rights in bankruptcy cases.

US Trustee Program Announces Temporary Waiver of Credit Counseling Requirement in Areas Affected by Hurricane Katrina
On September 21, 2006, the US Trustee Program announced that the temporary waiver of the statutory requirment under the new bankruptcy law for credit counseling and debtor education for bankruptcy filers in the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Louisiana and the Southern District of Mississippi will be extended, due to the continued effects of Hurricane Katrina in those areas.
